Peace on Earth
The fall issue of “The Land Report” featured Ronald Reagan’s happy place at his ranch in California, as well as good articles about the complexities of water rights in Texas, and the Onondaga Nation’s taking their ancestral land claims to an international commission. The undated article reprinted from the New York Times covered the Onondaga's efforts to reverse injustices that courts at every level considered too old to address. Quite the read. (Full disclosure, one of my brothers is editor.)
A friend loaned me a copy of Christoper Columbus and the Afrikan Holocaust: Slavery and the Rise of European Capitalism by John Henrik Clarke (1998). While I never had a full understanding of native groups’ deep conflicts with a man some revere like a saint, after reading this book, I felt deeply chagrined by atrocities that were white-washed away.
May all nations heal old wounds so we may have Peace on Earth.
