Solstice
The minute I finished reading Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer (2022), I started re-reading – it’s that good. Her details are so specific it takes more than one pass to absorb them, and her take on listening to nature for as long as it takes to receive an answer is profound.
A fun and touching book I got in a book swap at a party: HOT DOG by Doug Salati (2022). This Caldecott Medal and Ezra Jack Keats Award winner gave a tender look at a city dog and its older owner who find relief at the beach during a heat wave. What a treasure!
I had taken out Barbara Ries Wager’s Within School Walls: School No. 12, (2010) hoping to find details about when 12 School was built and some photos. It had neither, but since I had it, I skimmed through it and was surprised by her honest stories about managing a city school. After taking charge in the mid-eighties, she applied for National Blue Ribbon status, and won it. Since my kids went there when she was principal, I tend to remember some tough times and got a new appreciation of what she did.
