Saleen Martin wrote about a recent college graduate who received her diploma while holding her 10-day-old daughter in a baby carrier. Grace Szymchack got her degree in early childhood education as part of a state-funded program. Congratulations!

Last week, there was a review of director/actor George Clooney’s latest release: The Boys in the Boat, a movie adapted from the non-fiction book by Daniel James Brown. Having read the book, I was thrilled to see the movie.

Last week’s paper had a good overview of athletes who died in 2023. Although many were older men longtime sports’ fans would have known, it was with mixed feelings that I read about Tori Bowie, Olympic champion sprinter, who died in May at age 32, of complications from childbirth.  None of the remembrance reviews that I’ve seen on TV included her. Thank you to AP reporter Bernard McGhee for including her and Terry R. Taylor, 71, the first female sports editor at the AP .
